Lam's wonderful things year 2007

Code - This is an AMAZING book. Pretty sums up the history of computing. Get this for the true computer geek in your life. This is the litmus test for being a geek. Have you read Code? This isn't a light read, but it is worth it. I feel like I know networking a lot better than before.

Casio DW-5600E watch - This thing is a tank. It's really comfortable to wear and the only watch I have where I don't have to take off when I am typing.

Kenneth Cole wallet - I like slim wallets and this is nice one.

Garmin Forerunner 305 - Last year I recommended the Nike+ for the Nano. That calculates how many steps you take and multiples on avg how far your steps are. So you have to calibrate it every so often. The Nike+ is only $30 dollars, what do you expect? The Garmin is a GPS watch and will give you the true distance.

Firefly - Just a really good TV show. It's just shiny.

Apple Cinema 20" - Yes it's about $400 dollars more than another 20" display, but I promise you it is 100% worth it. My only regret is that I didn't get the 23" for $900. Dell's more expensive displays uses the higher grade IPS screen type (like Apple). I wouldn't be surprised if they released new displays in Jan 2008.

LP Record player - There's a charm about the pops and crackles when you first place the needle on the record. And I like looking at the artwork on 12" records. Sometimes I buy the records just for the artwork.

Lightcap water bottle - I really don't use it, but it's just cool to look at.

Lego Tow Truck - It is huge, it measures over 26" inches! Legos are just plain cool, too bad they cost so much :(

Here is a poem by Radia Perlman, the author of the spanning tree protocol (STP). STP prevent loops on a Layer 2 switched network. Yeah, anyone can write a beautiful efficient algorithm thats used on the world's largest networks, but can you write a poem about it?

Algorhyme

I think that I shall never see
a graph more lovely than a tree.
A tree whose crucial property
is loop-free connectivity.
A tree that must be sure to span
so packet can reach every LAN.
First, the root must be selected.
By ID, it is elected.
Least-cost paths from root are traced.
In the tree, these paths are placed.
A mesh is made by folks like me,
then bridges find a spanning tree.

Hello world,
Life has been really busy the past few months. I think now is a good time to take the foot off the pedal for a couple of weeks. new happenings:
+ New job is going pretty good. I know I made the right decision this time.
+ Moved, that was pretty hectic.
+ Went to New York for Labor Day. Sounds silly, but I went there for this restaurant: http://elpote.com/
+ Saw Interpol in concert. Turn on the Bright Lights is a really good album
+ Pass a Cisco certification test.

Anyway, I wanted to share this awesome documentary Trang told me about.
Please Vote for Me. Just amazing, the school election parallels to the US politics. It touches on a lot of themes like, of course politics, human nature, China's one child policy. And it's pretty funny too. I would have voted for Cheng Cheng.
